The Healthcare Property Company Wales (HPC Wales) has completed the 1,664 sq m development of a £4.6m health centre on a former washery site at Aberpergwm. The two-floor centre integrates healthcare services for the local communities of Glynneath, Cwmgwrach, Pontneddfechan, Ystradfellte, Rhigos, Resolven, Melincourt, Clyne and Abergarwed. It has been designed to be adapted for future healthcare requirements.

GP, Health Board and pharmacy services are all provided under one roof at the Centre. There are 56 parking spaces for staff and patients, including six disabled spaces.

The project is supported by Welsh Government and was developed in partnership with the Vale of Neath Medical Practice, D R Cecil Jones Pharmacy and the Swansea Bay University Health Board.

The professional team involved in the project includes architects Austin:Smith Lord and John Weaver (Contractors) Limited. The building has been designed and constructed to achieve a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating, and an ‘Excellent’ rating for energy.

Paul Stacey, HPC Wales Managing Director, said: “Developing a centre that is modern and flexible for future use is an important factor in the provision of healthcare premises as we see services and technology evolve in the industry. Furthermore, integrating services into one facility maximises efficiency and effectiveness, and delivers the best primary care services for patients. We are delighted that this much-needed centre will soon open to the public.”
